Animal>>> Cyborg>>> Machine (2009)

This video is much racier and sleeker than the previous montage vid I posted; more sound effects and video clips.

Race & Cyberspace (March 2009)

So I’m opening up old media files as I prepare for the launch of CONJUREjournal, a new undergraduate digital publishing platform that I’m developing for our HBCU students when I came across this essay montage that I made as a doctoral student almost 11 years ago.

Sadly, though not surprisingly, the same issues from 2009 remain just as relevant today heading into 2020.

In those days, a cacophony of voices had declared it a “post-racial” era. Also, during the boom years of academic programs in the digital humanities, we were still trying to figure out how to attribute authorial citations on screen projects—so I decided to split the difference with a “SPECIAL THANKS” title card in the closing credits.

Really? It’s like some kind of crazy time capsule, yo! Even the design and aesthetic layout here—on this very blog site, CircuitouslyCute.com—looks madd kitsch by today’s standards—almost quaint…?

(I mean, can you say Tumblr gURLS?) (more…)
